About Me

Smiling woman with dark hair wearing a cream sweater against a gray background.

Janet Souhan, MS Ed

I know firsthand how overwhelming the college application journey can be. I have guided my own children through it twice, and that personal experience, combined with more than 20 years in education, shapes the way I support students and families today. My mission is simple: to replace stress with clarity and confidence.

Having served Guilford County Schools as a tutor for 12 years, I bring both insight and empathy to my work. I strive to create a supportive, respectful environment where students feel comfortable being themselves and confident in their decisions. I believe the college process should complement a student’s high school experience, not define it. My role is to provide thoughtful guidance while giving students the space to grow, explore their interests, and fully engage in the moments that matter most.

I am a member of IECA and SACAC and a graduate of the IECA Summer Training Institute, reflecting my commitment to the highest professional standards. Above all, I am dedicated to helping each student find the right college fit while ensuring the process remains a positive and rewarding experience for the entire family.

Expertise

I take a student-centered approach to college advising, focusing on each student’s unique strengths, interests, and goals. Through one-on-one work, I help students better understand themselves and develop a thoughtful, personalized plan for the college search and application process.

My college advising is a collaborative, supportive process. I work closely with students to help them take ownership of their journey, building confidence while ensuring they always feel guided and supported.

My role is to simplify and demystify the admissions process so it feels manageable, clear, and purposeful. I aim to reduce stress, provide structure, and create a steady path forward, allowing students to move through each step with clarity and confidence.

Philosophy

Philosophy

My philosophy centers on fit over admission. The goal is not just getting into a college. It is finding a place where each student can grow, succeed, and be happy.

Just as importantly, the college process should support your life, not consume it. High school is a formative time, and when it becomes solely about college admissions, students miss out on experiences that truly shape them.

Ultimately, where you go matters far less than what you do once you are there. I believe that success is defined by engagement and how students take advantage of their academics, communities, and opportunities.

Testimonials

"We couldn’t have made it thru the college process without Janet and her team!! Our daughter was navigated every step of the way. Highly recommend CAP!!! "

~ Carrie (Class of 2025 parent)

"Working with CAP was one of the best decisions we made for our son! The CAP team was knowledgeable and incredibly supportive through the entire process!"

~ Kelly (Class of 2024 parent)

"Working with CAP was the best decision I made for my kid’s college application journey. From the beginning, they made the process much less overwhelming. They helped make all the steps from narrowing down the college list, keeping track of deadlines to writing essays all very manageable. What stood out the most to me was the bond my son formed with Janet. She took the time to really get to know him as a person not just a student. Initially, he did not get the news he hoped for, but Janet continued to be supportive and helped him navigate his next steps. Whether he had a quick question or needed help brainstorming, the advisors were approachable and supportive. I can confidently say the college admissions process would not have been as smooth without them. I highly recommend using CAP if you are looking for someone who knows the college process inside and out and genuinely cares about your student’s success."

~ Maria (Class of 2025 parent)

"We highly recommend working with CAP. They guided our son throughout the entire college application process. Their advice and expertise helped our son stay organized. He is now attending his first choice. We believe their support helped get him there."

~ Tracy (Class of 2025 parent)

"Janet has been wonderful to work with and guide us throughout this entire process. Very detailed with information and keeping us informed."

~Tanya (Class of 2026 parent)

"Working with CAP was by far the most helpful thing I did in High School in preparation for my next step. I’m currently in my sophomore year at The University of Tennessee Knoxville, and I would not be here if it weren’t for all the help CAP provided. As the oldest in my family my parents and I were new to the college application process and had no clue what we were in for. Not only did working with CAP and Mrs. Souhan keep me on pace, but it helped me through all of their resources when creating my college application. If you need any help with your college application or even a boost of encouragement to help stay on track, CAP is the absolute best resource because this could be the biggest decision of your life."

~Tyler (Class of 2024)

"CAP guided our daughter throughout her high school career to navigate through the college application and selection process. I cannot thank Janet and her team enough for their support, resources, and expertise. It was a pleasure to partner with them."

~ Brenna (Class of 2025 parent)

"Approaching the college application process, I was very unsure and nervous. CAP started with me early on to develop ideas and make a plan so I had everything I needed to feel confident in submitting applications in a timely manner. The personalization was the best part about my experience. I didn’t feel rushed and I felt prepared. CAP didn’t compare me to other students and didn’t make me feel any less of myself. I wouldn’t have had the outcome I did without CAP!"

~ Lillie Margaret (Class of 2026)

"CAP's approach made another stressful process, from SAT and ACT prep, through the college application process, proceed seamlessly. CAP's approach is methodical, engaging with the student, and a true godsend for parents. When my son pivoted and decided to explore an international option, CAP sought additional resources, provide great information, and assisted my son in matching with an international university that was compatible with his interests. I really appreciate the way CAP ensures that the students run the process, while keeping parents in the loop. I highly recommend CAP!"

~ Beth (Class of 2026 Parent)

"CAP guided our daughter from the first stages of planning for college, to helping her know what she needed to be a competitive applicant, to narrowing down schools, and then gave her the information and confidence to navigate the application process independently.  They helped her stay focused and organized, which made what we thought would be an overwhelming process very manageable.  Janet’s support and encouragement toward our daughter as she awaited admission decisions were above and beyond what we expected. I cannot recommend CAP enough for their expertise and resources, but also because they genuinely care about their clients. "

~Karla (Class of 2024 parent)

"CAP was invaluable in helping both of our sons realize their college dreams. I loved how they placed the responsibility on the kids and then motivated them to follow through. College admission these days can seem harder than the college itself and whenever my wife and I were asked a question we couldn’t answer, we said, “Ask the CAP ladies,” and our questions were answered!."

"Choosing College Advising Partners is one of the best decisions we made during the stressful college application process. Janet is knowledgeable and so supportive, helping our daughter navigate the complex application requirements and deadlines. She is also helping our daughter find the right colleges to apply to. Their personalized guidance on essay topics and revisions is invaluable.

This is our second child going through this process and CAP helps each child in their own way. They are also extremely patient and positive through every step. My husband and I are so very thankful for the staff at College Advising Partners."

~ Jennifer (Class of 2024 and 2026 parent)

"Michael and I are soooo very grateful for the help of Robin and Janet with College Advising Partners.  They were recommended to us by dear friends and I truthfully don’t know how we would have navigated the process of finding the right colleges to apply to for MC and then getting through the actual application process.  They worked directly with MC to empower her with the tools and guidance she needed and so far she’s gotten into 4 of the 6 schools she’s applied to. Two with scholarships!  Still waiting on the last two who have later decision dates.  They will be stuck with us for a while, as we will most definitely be using them again with Sallie and then Sawyer!"

~ Emily (Class of 2026 Parent)

"We cannot be happier with the help that we received from CAP Greensboro. Their expertise, advice, and clear schedule of expectations allowed us to meet all deadlines and not be stressed about this complex process. We can’t sing their praises enough and really value how knowledgeable, respectful, honest, and kind they were to work with."

~ Melynee (Class of 2026 Parent)

"Janet, We cannot thank you enough for your guidance, compassion, and knowledge of walking us through this process the last several years and coaching us through the emotional rollercoaster. Your words of wisdom and experience were always spot on for her. Her comfort level with you was that of a family feeling and for that, I am thankful that you reached her heart in such a way.  Her first thought on any news was to text or email you! We feel that LM ended up where she is truly meant to be and that is a joyful feeling!"

~ Tammye (Class of 2026 Parent)
